Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is one of the major cereal crops cultivated for food, feed and malting purposes. Its productivity is strongly influenced by genotype, sowing time, seeding rate, soil fertility, nutrient availability and climatic conditions. Among agronomic practices, optimization of sowing date and fertilizer application is particularly important because these factors determine the duration of vegetative development, tillering, canopy formation, biomass accumulation, yield-component formation and grain filling. Numerous studies have therefore investigated the interaction between barley varieties and crop-management practices under different environmental conditions. This article presents brief overview of the results obtained regarding the effect of seeding rate and fertilizer application rates on the growth, development, and yield of barley varieties under the soil and climatic conditions of central region of Uzbekistan.
